If the domain name you desire is not listed in this database, then you are free to register it as your own.

The second type of domain listing is a compilation of WHOIS databases. Each registrar has his own WHOIS database. However, there are certain websites that can search all of these databases simultaneously. Not only do you find out if a domain name is already registered, but you can see who the domain is registered to. The WHOIS database reveals the registrant’s name and contact information. You may search multiple domain names or search them one at a time.

To conduct a domain search visit any domain registrar’s website, or type “WHOIS” into a search engine to find WHOIS database websites. There are numerous links to these databases on the Internet. Once you are connected to a database, simply type in the domain name and wait for the result to appear. It’s that simple!
